Target Information
Catalyzes the two serial methylation steps for conversion of 7-monomethylguanosine (m⁷G) caps of snRNAs and snoRNAs into 2,2,7-trimethylguanosine (m²,²,⁷G) cap structures. The enzyme is specific for guanine, requiring N7 methylation before N2 methylation.
Hypermethylation of the m⁷G cap of U snRNAs leads to their concentration in nuclear foci, colocalization with coilin, and formation of canonical Cajal bodies (CBs).
Plays a role in transcriptional regulation.
