Target Information

The MAFF gene encodes a basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor lacking a transactivation domain.
It binds the US-2 DNA element in the promoter of the oxytocin receptor (OTR) gene and likely heterodimerizes with other leucine zipper-containing proteins to enhance OTR gene expression during term pregnancy.
Homodimers may act as transcriptional repressors.
The gene may also be involved in cellular stress response.
Multiple transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been identified.
