Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with a well-defined epitope (W40, R-53) on CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on all hematopoietic cells and widely present in all tissues.
It does not compete with MEM-43/5 and exhibits blocking activity.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC).
It prevents complement-mediated cell lysis by binding complement C8 and/or C9 during MAC assembly, inhibiting cytolytic pore formation.
CD59 also acts as a low-affinity ligand for human CD2, mediating T cell costimulation and lymphocyte signaling.
Mutations in CD59 can cause CD59 deficiency, associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
