Target Information
Transcription factor that can act as both an activator and a repressor depending on context. Plays a central role in BMP signaling and olfactory neurogenesis. Associates with SMADs in response to BMP2 to activate transcription of BMP target genes. Acts as a transcriptional repressor via interaction with EBF1, preventing EBF1 from binding DNA and activating olfactory-specific genes. Involved in regulating the developmental switch from differentiation to maturation in olfactory receptor neurons and in controlling proliferation and differentiation of neural precursors during cerebellar vermis formation.
