AOX1 (Aldehyde oxidase 1)은 1338개의 아미노산으로 구성된 세포질 단백질로, 다양한 알데하이드의 산화를 촉매하여 과산화수소를 생성합니다. 특정 조건에서는 superoxide free radical 형성도 가능합니다. 산소 라디칼 대사 이상은 근위축성 측삭경화증(ALS)과 관련이 있으며, AOX1은 척수 복각부에서 높은 발현을 보입니다. AOX1 유전자는 ALS2와 관련된 염색체 영역에 위치하여, ALS2의 후보 유전자로 제시되고 있습니다.
