Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질군에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 주변신경계의 ganglia 위성세포와 비수초성 Schwann 세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 역시 GFAP를 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 astrocyte 세포의 표지자로 널리 활용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타나며, 렌즈 상피, 간 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양 일부 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte와 다른 glial 세포를 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander 병(희귀한 astrocyte 장애)을 유발합니다. 이 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 이형 단백질을 생성합니다.
