Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with a well-defined epitope (W40, R-53) on CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on all hematopoietic cells and widely present in tissues.
It does not compete with MEM-43/5 and exhibits blocking activity.
Target Information
CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC).
It prevents complement-mediated cell lysis by binding C8 and/or C9, inhibiting pore formation.
CD59 also interacts with C5b-8 complex, serves as a low-affinity ligand for CD2, and participates in T cell costimulation and signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 cause CD59 deficiency, leading to hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
