Target Information
NFKB1 or NFKB2 forms the NFKB complex by binding to REL, RELA, or RELB. This complex is inhibited by I-kappa-B proteins (NFKBIA or NFKBIB), which sequester NF-kappa-B in the cytoplasm. Phosphorylation of I-kappa-B proteins by kinases (IKBKA or IKBKB) leads to their ubiquitination and degradation, enabling NF-kappa-B activation. The activated NFKB complex translocates into the nucleus and binds DNA at kappa-B-binding motifs such as 5'-GGGRNNYYCC-3' or 5'-HGGARNYYCC-3'. For certain genes, activation requires cooperation with transcription factors such as STAT, AP1, and NFAT.
