Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which regulates various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This receptor-type PTP contains an extracellular domain with multiple fibronectin type III repeats, a transmembrane segment, and an intracellular catalytic domain. It interacts with neuronal receptors and cell adhesion molecules (e.g., contactin, tenascin C) as well as sodium channels, suggesting a role in regulating sodium channel phosphorylation, cell adhesion, neurite growth, and neuronal differentiation.
Alternate transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
