Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It links E-cadherin to alpha-catenin and the actin cytoskeleton, and interacts with signaling pathways including Wnt/Wingless. Beta-catenin plays roles in morphogenesis and is expressed in various hair follicle and epithelial cells. Dysregulation is associated with cancers such as colorectal, ovarian, and breast tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of genes like cyclin D and c-myc that drive cell proliferation.
