Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen and is secreted at sites of acute and chronic inflammation. IL-6 induces transcriptional inflammatory responses via the interleukin 6 receptor alpha.
This gene is associated with various inflammation-related diseases, including diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi Sarcoma, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels have been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19.
