Target Information

The concentrative nucleoside transporter (CNT) family comprises three members: CNT1, CNT2, and CNT3. CNT2 is involved in the absorption and disposition of endogenous nucleosides and mediates the first step of nucleotide biosynthesis. CNT2 levels depend on insulin concentration and are regulated by the Adenosine 1 receptor. CNT proteins play key roles in the cellular response to anticancer and antiviral nucleoside analogs by modulating their entry into tissues. Evidence also suggests CNT2 may contribute to energy metabolism through activation linked to ATP-sensitive K⁺ channels.
