Target Information
The inhibin beta B subunit joins the alpha subunit to form a pituitary FSH secretion inhibitor. Inhibin negatively regulates gonadal stromal cell proliferation and exhibits tumor-suppressor activity. Serum levels of inhibin reflect granulosa-cell tumor size and can serve as a marker for primary and recurrent disease. Expression may vary by tissue type, suggesting inhibin acts as both a growth/differentiation factor and a hormone. The beta B subunit forms homodimer activin B and heterodimer activin AB, both stimulating FSH secretion.
