Target Information

ATRX encodes a protein containing an ATPase/helicase domain and belongs to the SWI/SNF family of chromatin remodeling proteins.
Mutations in this gene are associated with X-linked mental retardation (XLMR) syndrome, often accompanied by alpha-thalassemia (ATRX) syndrome.
These mutations can alter DNA methylation patterns, linking chromatin remodeling, methylation, and gene expression during development.
ATRX undergoes cell cycle–dependent phosphorylation, regulating its nuclear matrix and chromatin association, suggesting roles in gene regulation during interphase and chromosomal segregation in mitosis.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
