Target Information
eIF4A2 is a 407 amino acid ATP-dependent RNA helicase belonging to the DEAD box helicase family. It contains one helicase ATP-binding domain and a helicase C-terminal domain. As a subunit of the eIF4F complex, eIF4A2 functions as a protein synthesis initiation factor, facilitating the binding of mRNA to the 43S pre-initiation complex of ribosomes.
Human eIF4A2 interacts with the NS5B protein of Hepatitis C virus (HCV), aiding genomic RNA synthesis by unwinding the secondary structure of the HCV genome. It is ubiquitously expressed in most normal tissues, though expression levels vary.
