Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia, 말초 신경계의 satellite cell, 비수초성 Schwann cell에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경 줄기세포에서도 GFAP가 강하게 발현됩니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP가 과발현됩니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 발견됩니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 마커로 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease를 유발합니다. 이 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
