Target Information
MPP8 is a heterochromatin component that specifically recognizes and binds methylated Lys-9 of histone H3 (H3K9me) and promotes recruitment of proteins mediating epigenetic repression. It participates in recruitment of the HUSH complex to H3K9me3 sites, maintaining transcriptional silencing through SETDB1 and MORC2. MPP8 also recruits DNMT3A to CpG sites, contributing to DNA methylation and gene repression. Additionally, it plays roles in silencing L1 retrotransposons and unintegrated retroviral DNA via interaction with ZNF638. [UniProt]
