Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)는 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 일부 astroglia에서 강하게 발현되며, 말초신경계의 satellite cell과 non-myelinating Schwann cell에서도 발견됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP 발현이 강하게 나타납니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 표지자로 유용하며, astrocytic cell에서 유래한 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타납니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer cell, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 astrocyte 관련 질환)를 유발하며, 대체적 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
