Target Information
This gene encodes a protein involved in regulating responses to cytokines via the Rel/NF-kappaB transcription factor family. These factors are key regulators of innate immunity, responding to pathogens, inflammatory signals, and stress. The gene product interacts with TRAF proteins and either I-kappaB kinase or MAP kinase to activate NF-kappaB or Jun kinase pathways. Two alternative transcripts encoding different proteins have been identified, and a third non-coding transcript transcribed in the opposite orientation may regulate expression of the protein-coding forms.
