Target Information

TRPA1 is a TRP-related channel that responds to cold temperatures and pungent compounds, playing a role in nociceptor and hair cell transduction. It is a transformation-associated gene product in lung epithelia, with protein distribution primarily in sensory neurons. Blocking TRPA1 may serve as a therapeutic target for cold hyperalgesia caused by inflammation or nerve damage.
TRPA1 is also expressed outside the CNS and is dysregulated during oncogenic transformation. The protein structure shares similarity with ankyrin and transmembrane proteins. Its function is not fully defined but is believed to be involved in signal transduction and growth control.
