Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. The core structure consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits; two rings are composed of seven alpha subunits, and two rings are composed of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal process. The immunoproteasome variant plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides. The PSMB4 gene encodes a member of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family, which forms part of the 20S core beta subunit.
