Target Information

Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to link the adhesion complex to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with cytoskeletal complexes containing adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in signaling pathways such as Wnt/Wingless.
It is expressed in various hair follicle cell types and epithelial tissues. Dysregulation of beta-catenin is implicated in several cancers, including colorectal, ovarian, breast, liver, lung, gastric, prostate, and skin tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors that regulate genes like cyclin D and c-myc, promoting cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
