Target Information
TMC6 interacts with zinc transporter SLC30A1 and localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum, nuclear membrane, and Golgi apparatus.
Inactivation of the TMC6 gene is associated with epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV), an autosomal recessive skin disorder characterized by susceptibility to human papillomaviruses (HPVs) and high risk of progression to squamous cell carcinoma.
Mutations in TMC6 or adjacent genes on chromosome 17q25.3 cause EV.
TMC6 encodes a transmembrane channel-like protein with 10 transmembrane domains and 2 leucine zipper motifs.
Associated diseases include Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis and Superficial Mycosis.
