Target Information
Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) plays a crucial role in receptor-mediated signal transduction through the generation of second messengers, inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate and diacylglycerol, from phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate.
Mammalian PLC isozymes include PLCβ1–4, PLCγ1–2, PLCδ1–2, and PLCε.
PLCδ1 acts as a calcium signal amplifier and is activated by atypical GTP-binding proteins. It functions as an effector in oxytocin receptor and α1B-adrenoreceptor signaling.
Mouse PLCδ1 is highly expressed in brain, heart, lung, and testis. Abnormal accumulation of PLCδ in Alzheimer’s disease brains suggests its involvement in disease pathology.
PLCδ2 is markedly expressed in type II intestinal metaplasia and adenocarcinoma, potentially serving as a marker for gastric malignant transformation.
