Antibody detects endogenous levels of total TGF alpha.
Target Information
TGF-alpha is an EGF-related polypeptide growth factor that signals through the EGF receptor and stimulates the proliferation of various epidermal and epithelial cells. It is produced by monocytes, keratinocytes, and various tumor cells. TGF-alpha induces anchorage-independent transformation in cultured cells. Human, murine, and rat TGF-alpha are cross-species reactive. TGF-alpha (aa 50) is a growth factor with 33% homology to EGF, binds to EGFR, activates tyrosine phosphorylation of the receptor, and stimulates cell proliferation. It plays a role in tumor initiation by inducing the reversible transformed phenotype.
