Target Information
The IL21R gene encodes a cytokine receptor for interleukin 21 (IL21). It belongs to the type I cytokine receptor family and forms a heterodimeric receptor complex with the common gamma-chain, which is shared by IL2 and IL5 receptors. IL21R mediates IL21-induced growth signals and plays a key role in T cell, B cell, and NK cell proliferation and differentiation. Ligand binding activates downstream signaling molecules including JAK1, JAK3, STAT1, and STAT3. Mouse knockout studies indicate a role in immunoglobulin regulation. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encode the same protein.
