EPHA2는 단백질 티로신 키나아제(TK) 계열의 ephrin 수용체 하위군에 속합니다. EPH 및 EPH 관련 수용체는 특히 신경계에서의 발달적 과정에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. EPHA2는 다양한 인간 암에서 과발현되며, 세포 간 상호작용(분화, 부착, 운동성 및 세포사)에 관련된 조절에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 현재 약 90개의 TK 유전자가 서열화되어 있으며, 이 중 58개는 수용체형 TK (예: EGFR, EPH, FGFR, PDGFR, TRK, VEGFR 등), 32개는 세포질형 TK (예: ABL, FAK, JAK, SRC 등)에 속합니다.
