Target Information
RYBP is a component of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1-like complex required to maintain transcriptional repression of genes such as Hox during development. This complex acts via chromatin remodeling and histone modification, mediating monoubiquitination of histone H2A at Lys-119, which alters chromatin expressibility.
RYBP is involved in X chromosome silencing in females and may recruit the PRC1-like complex to target sites. It inhibits TP53 ubiquitination and degradation, regulating transcription of TP53 target genes. It may also control proteasomal degradation of proteins such as FANK1 to regulate apoptosis and repress transcriptional activity of E4TF1.
RYBP may play a role in tumor growth repression and metastasis inhibition in breast cancer through down-regulation of SRRM3.
