Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and function in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition, differing from prokaryotic ribosomes. The MRPL41 gene encodes a 39S subunit protein belonging to the YmL27 ribosomal protein family.
