Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies. This protein is part of the MRP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. It acts as a modulator of ATP-sensitive potassium channels and insulin release. Mutations in this protein are linked to hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia of infancy and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus type II. Alternative splicing has been observed, though transcript variants are not fully characterized.
