This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).

Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems. The expression systems are developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select the best candidates for production.

This antibody has specificity for Human COX5B.

Target Information

The cytochrome c oxidase (COX) family of proteins functions as the final electron donor in the respiratory chain, driving a proton gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane, ultimately resulting in the production of water.

The mammalian COX apoenzyme is a dimer, with each monomer consisting of 13 subunits, some mitochondrial and some nuclear. Found in the inner mitochondrial membrane, COX5 is the heme A-containing chain of the oxidase family that converts one molecule of oxygen and four molecules of hydrogen to two molecules of water.

Two isoforms of COX5 exist — COX5a and COX5b.

• When oxygen levels are high, transcription of COX5a (aerobic isoform) is up-regulated.
• When oxygen levels are low, COX5b (hypoxic isoform) transcription increases to maximize COX apoenzyme turnover rate.
