For reconstitution, add 100 µL distilled water to reach a final concentration of approximately 1 mg/mL.
For conjugation experiments, perform an additional desalting step (recommended: Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).

Target Information

Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%), which are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue. In the lens, crystallins maintain the proper refractive index.
The mammalian lens contains three major classes of crystallins: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin, the largest, is composed of two gene products: alpha-A and alpha-B.
Alpha-crystallin comprises 40% of total lens protein composition and functions as a chaperone to prevent aggregation, potentially reducing cataract formation.
Phosphorylated states of alpha-crystallin may occur in response to cellular stress, serving structural control and protein maintenance roles.
Alpha-B crystallin has been associated with Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
