Specificity Comments:
EBAG9 (RCAS1) is an estrogen-transcribed protein. Soluble and membranous RCAS1 proteins may facilitate tumor immune evasion by inhibiting T lymphocyte proliferation and inducing apoptosis. RCAS1 is expressed in various cancers (uterine, ovarian, lung) and acts as a ligand for a receptor on peripheral lymphocytes. It is highly expressed in cancerous and immune-targeted bile duct cells. High RCAS1 expression correlates with tumor progression and poor prognosis.
Target Information
This gene is estrogen-responsive and regulated by the estrogen receptor through an estrogen-responsive element in its promoter region. The encoded protein is a tumor-associated antigen expressed frequently in multiple cancers. Two transcript variants differing in the 5′ UTR but encoding the same protein have been identified.
