Product Specific Information
This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).
This antibody has specificity for Human Lactotransferrin/LTF.
Target Information
Lactoferrin (LF) is an iron-binding glycoprotein composed of a single polypeptide chain (~80 kDa) folded into two homologous lobes, each capable of reversibly binding one ferric ion (Fe³⁺). It is found in external fluids such as milk and mucosal secretions and is a key component of neutrophil secondary granules.
Lactoferrin plays roles in:
- Regulation of iron homeostasis
- Host defense against microbial infections
- Anti-inflammatory activity
- Regulation of cellular growth and differentiation
- Protection against cancer development and metastasis
LTF acts as a major first-line defense against microbial infections by binding and removing Fe³⁺ from the environment. It also exhibits bactericidal and proteolytic activity, cleaving arginine-rich sequences within microbial proteins.
Three isoforms (LTF-α, LTF-β, LTF-γ) have been identified. LTF receptors are expressed in the gastrointestinal tract, macrophages, lymphocytes, neutrophils, platelets, and some bacteria.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures or resale without express authorization.
