Target Information

GPC3 is a cell surface proteoglycan that bears heparan sulfate. It may be involved in suppression and modulation of growth in mesodermal tissues and organs, and may play a role in regulating IGF2 interactions with its receptor. Members of the glypican family contain a core protein anchored to the membrane via a glycosyl phosphatidylinositol (GPI) linkage, contributing to cell division and tumor predisposition regulation. Deletion mutations in GPC3 cause Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome (SGBS), characterized by pre- and postnatal overgrowth with visceral and skeletal anomalies.
