Target Information
This gene encodes the major vault protein (MVP), a lung resistance-related protein. Vaults are multi-subunit structures potentially involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. MVP mediates drug resistance, possibly through a transport mechanism. It is widely distributed in normal tissues and overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells, making it a useful marker for clinical drug resistance. Two transcript variants exist due to alternative exon 2 usage, but both encode the same protein.
