Target Information

RET is a receptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the cadherin superfamily. It mediates cell growth and differentiation signals and is critical for neural crest development. RET can undergo oncogenic activation by cytogenetic rearrangement. Mutations in RET are linked to multiple endocrine neoplasia types IIA and IIB, Hirschsprung disease, and medullary thyroid carcinoma. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified; additional variants exist but their biological validity remains unconfirmed.
