Product Specific Information
The 2B8 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD117 (c-Kit receptor), also known as Steel factor receptor and stem cell factor receptor. CD117 is a 145-kDa tyrosine kinase receptor expressed on most hematopoietic progenitor cells, mast cells, and a subset of bone marrow cells positive for Sca-1 and Thy1 (low), but negative for lineage markers.
The interaction between c-Kit and steel factor promotes proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic progenitor cells and plays a key role in mast cell activation.

Applications Tested: Tested by flow cytometry of mouse bone marrow cells at ≤0.125 µg/test.
A test is defined as the amount of antibody that stains a cell sample in 100 µL volume. Optimal titration is recommended.

Target Information
KIT (c-KIT) is a proto-oncogene encoding a type 3 transmembrane receptor for mast cell growth factor (MGF, also known as stem cell factor). It regulates growth and activation of hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells. Mutations in KIT are associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mast cell disease, acute myelogenous leukemia, and piebaldism.
The KIT receptor is expressed in hematopoietic stem cells, germ cells, mast cells, and interstitial cells of Cajal. Upon SCF binding, KIT dimerizes and autophosphorylates tyrosine residues (e.g., Tyr703), leading to activation of downstream signaling pathways including Ras/ERK, PI3K, PLC-γ, and JAK/STAT.
