Target Information
NTRK1 (TRKA) is a member of the neurotrophic factor family crucial for the development and maintenance of the mammalian nervous system. TrkA acts as a membrane-bound receptor that, upon neurotrophin binding, phosphorylates itself and activates members of the MAPK pathway. Its presence promotes cell differentiation and may influence sensory neuron subtype specification. Mutations in TrkA are linked to congenital insensitivity to pain, anhidrosis, self-mutilating behavior, mental retardation, and certain cancers.
