Target Information
The PPAR delta gene encodes a member of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) family, which are nuclear hormone receptors that regulate peroxisome proliferation and lipid metabolism. PPARs are involved in various biological processes and may play roles in chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, and cancer.
PPAR delta acts as an inhibitor of ligand-induced transcription activity of PPAR alpha and gamma, functioning as an integrator of transcription repression and nuclear receptor signaling. Elevated expression has been observed in colorectal cancer cells and can be repressed by the tumor suppressor APC. Mouse knockout studies suggest roles in myelination, lipid metabolism, and epidermal proliferation.
