Target Information
COMP (Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein) is a noncollagenous extracellular matrix protein composed of five identical glycoprotein subunits. Each subunit contains EGF-like and calcium-binding (thrombospondin-like) domains.
Oligomerization occurs via a five-stranded coiled coil and disulfide bonds.
COMP interacts with other ECM proteins such as collagen in a divalent cation-dependent manner.
Mutations in COMP can lead to osteochondrodysplasias such as pseudochondroplasia (PSACH) and multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED).
