Target Information
NIP3 (BNIP3) is a member of the BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa-interacting protein (BNIP) family. It interacts with the E1B 19 kDa protein, which protects against virally induced cell death, and with BCL2-like sequences that act as apoptotic protectors. NIP3 contains BH3 and transmembrane domains associated with pro-apoptotic function. This dimeric mitochondrial protein induces apoptosis even in the presence of BCL2.
