Target Information
Cas9 is an RNA-guided DNA endonuclease enzyme associated with the CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) adaptive immunity system in bacteria and genetic engineering.
This system uses RNA to guide the nuclease to a specific DNA sequence, allowing for targeted genome editing such as indel mutations, sequence insertions, deletions, or rearrangements.
Cas9 may be derived from Streptococcus pyogenes (SpCas9) or Staphylococcus aureus (SaCas9).
SaCas9 is smaller (1053 AA vs. 1368 AA for SpCas9), highly efficient, and recognizes an NNGRRT PAM sequence, making it suitable for compact delivery systems such as AAV vectors.
