Target Information
ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and are involved in the regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells.
They are activated by various stimuli including growth factors, cytokines, virus infection, and ligands for G protein-coupled receptors.
Upon activation through the Ras-Raf-MEK-ERK signaling cascade, ERKs phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or migrate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors such as c-Fos and Elk-1.
