Target Information

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is an emerging disease characterized by atypical pneumonia, attributed to a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV). The nucleocapsid protein (N) is one of the structural proteins of SARS-CoV (N, S, sE, M).
The SARS-CoV-2 S gene has 76% amino acid similarity to the SARS-CoV S gene, and nonsynonymous mutations developed in the S protein as the epidemic progressed. Reports indicate that the crystal structure of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein is similar to previously described coronavirus N proteins, though their surface electrostatic potential characteristics differ.
