Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCB2 (PKC beta II), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 PKC isoforms are identified, differing in structure, localization, and substrate specificity.
PKC alpha, beta I, beta II, and gamma comprise the conventional family, which are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC enzymes phosphorylate diverse protein targets and are key regulators in cellular signaling pathways, acting as receptors for phorbol esters, tumor promoters.
This kinase participates in B cell activation, apoptosis, endothelial proliferation, and intestinal sugar absorption. Mouse studies suggest roles in neuronal regulation and stress-related behavior.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
