POU5F1은 줄기세포 형성과 세포 대체 치료 연구에서 핵심적으로 활용되며, Sox2, Klf4, Lin28, c-Myc 등의 전사 인자와 함께 iPS 세포 생성에 사용됩니다.
최근 연구에서는 바이러스 도입 없이 POU5F1, Sox2, Klf4, c-Myc를 발현하는 플라스미드를 이용해 iPS 세포를 생성할 수 있음을 보여주어, 재생의학 응용에서 안전성 측면의 개선을 제시하였습니다.
