CD99 (E2, MIC2)는 T 세포의 접착 특성과 세포 사멸 조절에 관여하는 막관통 당단백질입니다. 일반적인 세포사멸 과정과는 구별되는 형태의 programmed cell death에 관련되어 있으며, corticothymocyte 단계와 같은 특정 T 세포 분화 단계에서 역할을 합니다. CD99R 아이소폼은 T, NK, 및 myeloid 세포 등 조혈계 내에서 제한적으로 발현됩니다.
