Target Information
Integrins are heterodimeric transmembrane glycoprotein receptors composed of alpha and beta subunits. Different combinations of these subunits determine ligand-binding specificity. Integrins mediate cell–matrix and cell–cell adhesion and transduce signals regulating gene expression and cell growth.
The ITGB4 gene encodes the integrin beta 4 subunit, a receptor for laminins, typically associated with the alpha 6 subunit. It plays a key role in invasive carcinoma biology. Mutations in this gene are linked to epidermolysis bullosa with pyloric atresia. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
