Target Information

SLIT and NTRK-like family 1 (Slitrk1) belongs to a protein family of six homologous transmembrane proteins (Slitrk1–6) sharing two conserved leucine-rich repeat domains in the extracellular region and significant homology to Slit, a secreted axonal growth-regulating protein. These proteins are also homologous to trk neurotrophin receptors in their intracellular domains.
Expression of Slitrk proteins is largely restricted to neural and brain tumor tissues but varies among family members. Slitrk1 is predominantly expressed in mature neurons. Overexpression of Slitrk1 induces unipolar neurite formation, whereas other Slitrk proteins inhibit neurite outgrowth, suggesting roles in neurite development.
Variants of Slitrk1 have been associated with Tourette’s Syndrome, though their contribution appears minor.
